Shri Adinath
Scriptural description
Shri Adinath, also known as Rishabhanath, is revered as the first Tirthankara of the present time cycle (Avasarpini). Jain scriptures describe him as the founder of the Jain spiritual tradition, who introduced the principles of renunciation, self-restraint, and liberation to humanity. After fulfilling his worldly duties, he renounced his kingdom and practiced intense austerities. According to Jain belief, Shri Adinath attained Moksha on Shri Sammed Shikharji, making this Tonk the spiritual starting point of the sacred hill. His life establishes the ideal balance between worldly responsibility and ultimate detachment.
Associated miracles
Jain tradition holds that Shri Adinath endured long periods of meditation and penance, remaining unmoved by physical hardship and mental distraction. His attainment of Moksha symbolizes the origin of the Jain path, proving that liberation is attainable through discipline, non-violence, and self-awareness. Devotees believe that offering prayers at this Tonk strengthens determination on the spiritual path and reminds pilgrims of the foundational principles of Jain dharma.
